Two weeks ago, the Alabama State Senate passed the T.J. Atchison Spinal Cord Injury Research Act sponsored by Senator Marc Keahey (D-Grove Hill), which has been transmitted to the House of Representatives. Senator Keahey’s bill will create and fund a program aimed toward discovering a cure for spinal cord injuries. In Alabama, the cost of care for spinal cord injuries is approximately $515 million per year and the cost to the State of Alabama in Medicaid and indigent care is approximately $143 million per year.
These are the types of bills that Alabama Democrats are proposing in the Legislature. While the Alabama Republican Party is doing everything it can to wage a war on women and destroy the rights of the vulnerable; we, as Democrats, are working tirelessly to ensure that no matter your lot in life you still have a voice and someone is still listening.

The Republican Party’s misguided priorities will leave this state in ruins. We were able to stop the forced vaginal ultra-sound bill – but it isn’t going to end with that.
